“Changing Media, Changing Societies: Media and the Millennium Development Goals” was the theme of the 17th AMIC Annual Conference, held in Manila in Philippines from 14 to 17 July in 2008.

The event was inaugurated with inter-religious prayer and the welcome remarks of Dr. Indrajit Banerjee, Secretary-General of AMIC. Noli ‘Kabayan’ De Castro, Vice President of Republic of the Philippines was the keynote speaker.

In this four day long events delegates, media practitioners, Journalists, academicians, researchers and civil society activists from more than 17 countries joined. Moreover, representatives from UNDP, Local Media, ADB, policy makers and university students were present.

In this day, papers on New Paradigms in Development Communications, journalism and millennium development goals were presented.

On the second day papers on Media and Health, HIV AIDS, Media and Youth, Citizen Journalism, Media Law, News Media, Political Environment, Local Broadcasting, Globalization, and Environmental issues, Alternative Media, Cultural Diversity, Media identity, Online Media, as well as Partnering Media to Promote MDGs were presented.

On the third day Journalism Education in Different Environment, E-learning, Changing Face of Media Industry, Women in the Media, Media Monitoring, Democracy, News Media, Political Environment, Development Communications and New Technology, Cinema, Visual Arts, Media Impacts and New Media were discussed.

On the closing day talk show on media reality and practices along with the session was held on media research and education. The event was concluded with prize giving and Philipino cultural show. The 18th Annual conference will be held in New Delhi India in the next year 2009.
